Job Summary

The Controller manages Building Restoration Corporations Finance Department providing information about all BRC activities that will assist management in making educated economic decisions about BRC’s future.

Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting Oversight: Oversee all activities of the BRC Accounting Department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements, annual audits, and annual budgets.  

Accounts Payable: Ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, petty cash, core employee expense reports, and implement and maintain cash controls.

Accounts Receivable: Oversee the invoicing and collections activities of the Project Managers. Ensures the accurate and timely management of all payables and receivables including billings, cash receipts application, etc.

Payroll: Oversee core payroll processing including certified payroll, and total corporate payroll tax compliance. Reviews quarter and year-end payroll closing including federal and state reports. Assists employees with any payroll related questions or issues.  

Corporate Tax: Assure corporate income tax compliance at both Federal and State levels (across multiple states) to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes.

Sales & Use Tax: Oversee sales & use tax process to ensure compliance in multiple states for customer invoicing, accounts payable and credit card purchases as well as fixed asset purchases and sales.

Retirement Plan Administration: Manages employee and corporate contributions to the 401k plan. Oversight of annual 401k audits. Partners with HR for employee enrollments, distributions and communication of information about the 401k plan.

Controls and Compliance: Establish, document and maintain systems and controls which verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data. Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.

Other Tasks: Manages and executes additional tasks including but not limited to fixed asset/depreciation process, maintain and administer banking relationships, manage health insurance process, full accounting of equipment rentals business, execute intercompany rent transfers, maintain fleet registrations, complete various government surveys  

Special Projects: Participate in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports as needed.

Accounting Staff: Manages accounting department of two, consisting of an accounting associate and an A/P clerk.

Customer Service: Works courteously and professionally with all employees, co-workers, management, subcontractors, vendors, and customers. Protects and ensures the security and confidentiality of all sensitive information, and handles this information carefully and attentively.

Education

  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
  • MBA and/or CPA certification strongly preferred.

Experience

5-7 years of work related experience

Skills, Competencies and Abilities (to be developed and exercised in this role)

  • Construction accounting experience including job costing, WIP, percentage of completion accounting, equipment management, subcontractor administration, lien and bond management.
  • Strong general ledger, GAAP, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, certified payroll, income tax and banking working knowledge.
  • Current knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Extremely detail oriented, highly organized, work well under deadlines, and proficient in follow through.
  • Proficient in both the Apple and PC computer environments. Advanced Excel skills required.
