The Building Restoration Corporation restoration of the Mayo Clinic Plummer Building has won the 2020 MCMCA Excellence Award. The Minnesota Concrete & Masonry Contractors Association awarded this project the excellence award in the Masonry Healthcare category.

The Building Restoration Corporation 2018 Guardian Building restoration was featured in an article published in the Rethos (Preservation Alliance of Minnesota) magazine. This project was nominated for the 2019 Minnesota Preservation Awards.

BRC has received the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota Honor Award for our work completed on the Waldmann Brewery & Wurstery in Saint Paul. The scope of work completed by BRC was tuckpointing, reconstruction of stone walls, and individual stone replacement.
The building was constructed in 1857 — six months before Minnesota became a state, nearly four years before the Civil War began, and at a time when less than 10,000 people lived in Saint Paul. It is the oldest surviving commercial building in the Twin Cities and is designated as an official Saint Paul Heritage Preservation Site.

Many of our employees have been asking about using headphones while working. Normal headphones are not safe to use as most of our job sites require ear protection. Safety Director Chris Towle has found OSHA and ANSI approved ear bud headphones that are safe to use in a loud construction environment. Please talk with your foreman about when it is appropriate to use headphones on a job site.

The restoration project at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis has reached new heights. In order to get a lift into the courtyard of the church, a crane had to hoist the lift up and over the building and place it in the courtyard.

The BRC crew at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis is hard at work on this exterior restoration. The project scope includes tuckpointing, acid washing, individual stone replacement, re-caulking, waterproofing, control joint installation, and sheet metal work.
The restoration at Lakewood Cemetery is not just a dead-end job. People are literally dying to see it and with thousands of people staying at the cemetery, we haven’t had one single complaint!

BRC employee Tony Selle recently won a 99 mile classic snowmobile race. The sleds competing in the race were all from 1976 or earlier and had to have stock 1 cylinder engines and suspensions. The course was 99 miles long with 33 -3 mile laps with a lot of turns. While many other sleds died along the course and had to be towed, Tony persevered and finished first.

Safety Day 2017 was a huge success. Safety is a cornerstone at BRC and this training will go a long way in reducing injuries out in the field. Respirator training, emergency planning, and hands-on swing stage training made the day interactive and informative.

BRC is proud to have helped the Beltrami Neighborhood Council with the construction of the new timber frame picnic pavilion at Beltrami Park. BRC Shop Manager Matt Yarbrough was kind enough to volunteer his time to operate a forklift and help with the construction of the pavilion.

BRC Metal Shop Manager Dan McPhillips graciously donated his time to help build new eye-catching information kiosks for the center. These two new kiosks help welcome visitors to the Dodge Nature Center and provide information about the center.

School is out and the crew working on Churchill Hall at North Dakota State University (NDSU) is hard at work. The crew is installing 375 lineal feet of through-wall flashing, stone patching, and installing 80 pieces of new cast stone. In addition to Churchill Hall, Joel Vaughan’s crew is also completing three other projects on the NDSU campus. Their skilled craftsmanship will be a great addition to the NDSU campus.
BRC would like to commend the crew working on Keller Hall at the University of Minnesota for their great work. A bystander was so impressed with the work being done that they sent the message below about the crew. Great work!
The “work hard, play hard” philosophy couldn’t be more fitting for Building Restoration Corporation employee, Tony Selle.
At BRC, Tony works on a team of sheet metal designers who are among the top in the industry. In his free time, Tony races a 6,000-pound mega truck with 57-inch tractor tires that spin up to 90 miles per hour.

What happens when there is an emergency involving a platform suspended off the side of a building, hundreds of feet off the ground? This unusual situation would be difficult for even the most experienced emergency responder.
